Peter Watt

PETER WATT was born in York in 1969, where his parents were both nurses. He is the eldest of nine children. Following his education he worked at Barclays Bank as a computer operator before training as a registered general nurse, qualifying in 1992. He practised at Poole Hospital for four years, specialising in acute care of the elderly.

In 1993 Peter joined the Labour Party and in 1996 left nursing, moved to London and began an 11-year career with the Party, initially as the Organiser for Battersea Labour Party. He progressed to the Elections Unit at Head Office, later becoming regional director in the East of England, Head of Compliance, Head of Finance and Compliance and finally General Secretary, a position he attained in 1995.

His time at the Labour Party ended with his resignation following the Donorgate scandal that erupted in November 2007. This led to a 14-month police investigation that concluded with no charges in March 2009. Peter is married to Vilma and has five children.
