Tom Mutch is a New Zealand journalist who has been covering Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion as a correspondent for the New Zealand Herald. His articles also appear frequently in the Daily Beast, Popular Mechanics, Military Times and Byline Times. He has also written for The Times, the Daily Telegraph and The Independent and he is a regular guest on the Daily Telegraph’s podcast Ukraine: The Latest.
Tom’s reporting has been widely cited in international media, as well as on Ukraine’s official social channels and President Zelensky’s accounts. He likewise has been recognised by the Kremlin, which banned him from Russia for reporting human rights abuses (he snuck into Kursk with the Ukrainian Army anyway). Oksen Lisovyi, Ukraine’s Minister of Education and Science, said that Tom was ‘one of the bravest, best journalists I met in Ukraine’.
He read modern history at Christ Church, Oxford, and has a Master’s degree in politics and journalism from Columbia University.
