Katherine Hannah, finds herself for the first time oddly gripped by a football match. West Ham’s official photographer and Hammers legend Stevie Bacon is to blame.
I will be quite honest; I am not a fan of football, I very rarely take an interest in the game. This possibly has something to do with growing up in Wales, that nation full of great football teams...
However, if I was told I had to choose a team to support I would probably pick Aston Villa, purely for the fact that this is who my Dad supports. Shamefully I could not name you a single Aston Villa player, or even their manager. You will be relieved to know though that something I have managed to pick up on is the fact that the end of the Olympics has meant the return of the Premier League season. I am also aware that Aston Villa lost 1-0 to West Ham on the weekend, I imagine my Dad is feeling rather disappointed by this. I on the other hand was for the first time quite interested in this game and not because Aston Villa were playing but because West Ham were (sorry Dad). Having recently read ‘There's only one Stevie Bacon’ I feel pretty knowledgeable about the Hammer’s side. As the club’s official photographer for more than 30 years Steve really does have some great stories to tell. I am not a football fan and yet I found myself oddly engrossed by his tales and amusing anecdotes.
So if you are an actual West Ham fan or just a fan of football itself (unlike me), then this is a book you will not want to miss out on, especially as it is currently available for the special price of £10.99!
