It’s International Women’s Day today, and it only seemed right that we celebrate some of the inspirational female authors we have here at Biteback and The Robson Press, because we really do have some fantastic ladies on our books. Some of them have excelled in their male dominated fields, some of them have overcome great personal losses, and some of them have worked tirelessly to help others. In a series of blogs throughout the day we will celebrate some of them.

Carey SchofieldCarey-Schofield.jpg

Carey Schofield is a writer, with a long standing interest in defence and security issues, and a visiting fellow at the University of Oxford. She spent five years on the frontline of the War on Terror to enrich her research. Is the Pakistan Army a reliable ally in the War on Terror? No other writer – Pakistani or foreign – can answer this critical question more clearly than Carey. No other writer knows these men better. For five years she travelled everywhere with them, witnessing operations, eating in the mess halls and speaking to everyone from President Pervez Musharraf down to the youngest soldier. The results, contained in her book, Inside the Pakistan Army, tells the story of this vital institution and is a telling insight into the heart of the War on Terror.
