Biteback publisher Iain Dale has announced a new version of his 2000 title Memories of Maggie: A Portrait of Margaret Thatcher, [now called Memories of Margaret Thatcher: A portrait, by those who knew her best] with a foreword by Prime Minister David Cameron.
Dale, who attended Baroness Thatcher’s funeral yesterday (17th April) along with several other book world figures, said the book would be expanded to include tributes from 160 people who knew and worked with the former prime minister throughout her time in Downing Street.
He said: “Lots of people have wanted to write a new piece about Thatcher, and we have also taken tributes that were made in parliament about her. David Cameron has written the foreword, and we are hoping Arnold Schwarzenegger will contribute.”
The book, which was originally published by Politico, was first published in 2000 to mark 10 years since Thatcher resigned from office. The new edition is due in May.
Dale said of the funeral: “It felt like an event rather than a funeral. It was strangely unemotional, though it was certainly a spectacle. There weren’t many people shedding a tear, but when her coffin was taken outside and we heard a cheer from the crowd—that was quite a moment.”
