It was all fun and games at The Barley Mow last night, as James Delingpole took to the stage at The Freedom Association’s Free Spirits (yeah, I thought that ‘free spirits’ meant free alcoholic spirits. It didn’t. Not that that’s the only reason I went or anything) Event, to talk about his book Watermelons: How Environmentalists are Killing the Planet, Destroying the Economy and Stealing Your Children’s Future.
James whipped the crowd up into a frenzy with his arguments against climate change, in true Delingpole style. Whether you agree with James’s views or not, there’s no denying that he’s a truly fantastic speaker.
I have to say, my favourite exchange came when a member of the audience asked James, ‘Just how shit are wind farms?’, and James’ reply, as well as suggesting that they are quite shit, included the argument that that's partly because wind farms scare horses.
It was a great event, and fantastic to hear someone speak so passionately about an issue, as James always does. And, you know, the book sales weren’t bad either. It’s not our bestseller for nothing.
