Have you ever heard that saying ‘what would *insert name of celeb here* do?’ People say it when embarrassing things happen, like when they run for the tube and it’s not even leaving for five minutes, or when they accidentally brush their hand against someone’s breast and neither party acknowledges it. I have. And let me tell you, I’ve heard some TERRIBLE suggestions as to celebs we should be emulating at times of severe discomfort. Justin Bieber (presumably get a bowl haircut). Madonna (continue directing films, despite guaranteed reviews like this). DANE BOWERS (sleep with Jodie Marsh and do reasonably well when she ranks you out of ten on the sex scale. Not that it matters. You're still taking advice from Dane Bowers). Well this is what I say. Why not take advice from your granny instead?
That’s what John Nicholson does in his new book, The Meat Fix, extracts of which appeared in the Daily Mail this morning. He details how, as ‘a reformed vegan’, he ‘gorges on all the foods his granny enjoyed... and has never felt better’.
‘As the kitchen filled with the smell of caramelised meat, my mouth watered in anticipation of the coming feast: a thick cut of tender steak, fried in butter and olive oil.’
Does that sound good to you? Because it sounds DELICIOUS to me. Does it sound unhealthy though? If your answer is yes then you might be wrong.
‘Twenty-four hours after eating meat again, all my IBS symptoms had gone. As the weeks and months passed, every aspect of my health improved dramatically. I became leaner, shedding body fat and becoming stronger and fitter. My headaches went away, never to return. Even my libido increased’.
Well if your libido increases I see no reason why you’re still reading this instead of rushing out to the nearest Tesco’s and bulk-buying the entire meat aisle.
The Meat Fix details John Nicholson’s remarkable transformation with characteristic wit and humour. It is the story of how eating meat again, after twenty-six vegetarian years, changed his life powerfully for the better, and of his quest to understand why the supposedly healthy diet he had existed on was actually damaging him. This is a fascinating, surprising, often hilarious and shocking journey of discovery.
