Celebrated novelist and Oscar-winning screenwriter Frederic Raphael talks about his memoir, Going Up: To Cambridge and Beyond.

Raphael talks about early life in Chicago, emigration to England when he was seven, education at Charterhouse and Cambridge and a glittering writing career that has taken in Hollywood and France. Cambridge has held a central place in Raphael’s career. His most celebrated novel, The Glittering Prizes, and its sequels follow the lives and aspirations of a group of Cambridge students into middle age. The Glittering Prizes was made into a six-part BBC series for which Raphael won a Royal Television Society Writer of the Year award. He also won an Oscar for his screenplay for the 1965 movieDarling.

Raphael is author of more than 20 novels and has been a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature since 1964. He appears at a second festival event to talk about his recent book on the persecution of Jews.
