About this event

Welcome back to the Mile End Institute!

In our first public event since the Covid-19 pandemic, we are delighted to be welcoming the legendary broadcaster and Britain's most celebrated TV documentary-maker, Michael Cockerell, to the Mile End Institute.

In this revival of our 'In Conversation' series - which has previously featured high-profile politicians such as Ken Clarke, Diane Abbott, and Nick Clegg - Michael will be reflecting on his fifty year career in political television and discussing his new book, Unmasking our Leaders: Confessions of a Political Documentary-Maker, which is out in paperback on Saturday 27 September.

Drawing on his unique experience of having interviewed our last ten Prime Ministers, Michael will talk about how he has managed to lull some of the most wary people in the land into candour and provide a compelling insight into what politicians as different as Edward Heath, Margaret Thatcher, Tony Blair, and Boris Johnson are really like.

This event is open to all and there will be opportunities for you to put your questions to one of Britain's most compelling and formidable interviewers. It will take place in the Arts Two Lecture Theatre at Queen Mary University of London, starting at 6.30pm and will be followed by a drinks reception in the Arts Two Foyer to which all are welcome.
